Questions, answered

How old do I have to be?

Adult classes are for ages 18 and up. Teens train in their own classes from age 13 to 17. We don't have classes for younger children.

Do I need to be fit or have trained before?

No. Every class has a coach who watches new people, and you work at your own pace. Plenty of people start with no experience.

What do I wear to my first class?

A plain t-shirt and shorts or leggings without pockets or zippers, and clean bare feet on the mat. We can lend wraps and gloves for the first class. The first-class page lists the rest.

What is a class like?

A warm-up, a technique or two shown by the coach, drills with a partner on pads or on the mat, and a short round at the end that you can skip until you're ready.

How does sparring start, and how hard is it?

Nobody spars in their first weeks. Light sparring opens to students after their first month, with gloves, shin guards and a mouthguard, and each round is set to the lightest contact in the pair. Say stop and your partner stops.

Can I watch a class first?

Yes. Come in during any class and watch from the viewing area. Parents of teens are welcome there too.

Do I need my own gear?

Not on your first day. After that you'll want hand wraps, gloves and shin guards. The front desk can tell you what to buy first and what we can lend.

How does tuition work, and how do I cancel?

Your plan depends on who is training and how many classes a week. Adult plans run 12 months, then month to month; teen plans are month to month. To cancel, write to us with 30 days' notice. The membership page has the full terms.

What happens if I miss a class?

Come to another class at your level the same week. We can also pause a plan for orders, deployment, travel or injury; ask before you go.

Do you compete?

Some of our students do and many never will. Classes are the same either way, and nothing about a plan asks you to compete.

Still have a question?

Call the front desk or send a message. We answer within a working day.
